    I’ve Been Through It Myself & Helping Clients For Over Four Years

    Today, I no longer need diabetes medications at all. My A1c has been 5.4 or less for over three years and I haven’t needed or taken diabetes medications for most of that time. Oh, and, as a side effect, I lost about 100 pounds.

    I had been off and on diets most of my life. The weight I lost would always come back and then some. In 2004, my doctor told me that I was diabetic and gave me a prescription for metformin. A nutritionist told me to eat lots of smaller meals throughout the day to keep my blood sugar levels steady. I wasn’t perfect but I basically followed the rules but my diabetes got slowly and steadily worse and my doctor added a sulphonylurea to my diabetes regimen. Almost four years ago after routine blood work, my A1c was near 10. My doctor wanted to try a third medication before prescribing insulin injections.

    That freaked me out. I decided to take my health into my own hands, learn about diabetes, and look for alternatives. I’m not talking about superfoods, special supplements, or miracle teas. I wanted science…and I found it. I began a journey that stopped diabetes in its tracks and I gave my body time to heal the best it could.

    Most of the changes I made have become permanent. They fit my life better. My body has changed. My tastes have changed. My cravings have changed. My relationship with food has changed. Today, I am healthier and happier. I am more alert, have more energy and enjoy my life.

No one thinks they can do this Until they do it

When I tell people we are going to reduce their reliance on carbohydrates and employ therapeutic intermittent fasting I get one of two responses:

“I’ve already tried Keto and the weight came back” 

Of course, it came back! They tried keto the way they tried any diet. The weight always comes back because when people diet, they think of it as a temporary measure and once they lose a few pounds or get their A1c under control, they want to go back to eating what they used to eat. In diets, we take drastic temporary measures, ones we know we can’t live with. This process is different. It is a gradual, comfortable lifestyle change that we do forever.

“I’m a carboholic, I don’t think I can live without carbs.”

No one has suggested that you won’t ever eat another carbohydrate. But if you engage in the process, carbohydrates won’t have the same dominance in your eating plan. It’s not about giving things up but about making better choices, choices that we actually want to make.

You don’t have to give everything up completely

It’s not a no-carb diet, it’s about changing your relationship with food. This process is the most effective way to control and reverse diabetes. Later in the process, you’ll have more wiggle room but, believe it or not, you won’t want to wiggle as much as you think you will.

Calories don’t count and you shouldn’t count them

In fact, we won’t count anything. We will gradually change the makeup of your plate. You won’t starve. In fact, every meal will leave you satisfied. The process is about percentages of macronutrients, carbs, proteins, and fats. It isn’t about how much you eat, what what you eat, and when you eat it.

It’s about finding the balance that works best for your health and your lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Your doctor was right…in a sense. As long as you only treat blood sugar levels without addressing the fundamental cause underlying of your diabetes, the condition will progressively get worse. However, if You work on changing the cause of the condition, Type 2 diabetes does NOT have to be chronic nor progressive.

  • You are right to be skeptical. “Cure” is a word we don’t use. We prefer to focus on the terms control and heal. If we control the fundamental cause of type 2 diabetes, the body wants to heal and knows how to do so. In the meantime, we’ll bring your diabetes under control, often without the need of medications, so that your body can do so.

  • Everyone can benefit from eating a healthier diet. If you have Type 2 diabetes, you will benefit from this process. The further you go in the program, the more changes you embrace, the more you will benefit. I am not a doctor. I do not have access to your medical records and probably wouldn’t understand them if I did. There are some conditions, if your pancreas has suffered damage, for example, that might affect our progress.

  • Yes with one caveat. The process is designed to result in lower blood glucose levels. Most diabetes medications have the potential to cause low-blood sugar and if you are taking one or more of them, you need to remain aware of the potential of low-blood sugar, a serious, possibly life-threatening condition.

  • Yes, frequently. Blood glucose measurements are the easiest measures we can use to understand how your body is reacting to the changes. You’ll be amazed at what a simple blood glucose test can tell you about your body.

  • My doctor asked me the same question. My answer, “Doc, nobody wants to cut carbs and nobody wants to fast. Hypnosis helps change your relationships with food, your body and even yourself.

  • The only people who can’t be hypnotized are the ones who don’t allow themselves to be hypnotized, mostly because they don’t understand hypnosis. But if, for some reason, you don’t want to be hypnotized, I’d still be happy to deliver the program to you. It just means that you have to use more of your willpower than those who allow themselves to be hypnotized.
